For the 2024 Mid-Autumn Festival, we collaborated with LOEWE to create a seasonal gift inspired by the shape of the full moon and the sentiment of reunion. Rooted in cultural heritage while embracing innovation, this year’s offering combines traditional bamboo weaving—an acclaimed form of intangible cultural heritage, with the classic spinning top.
In ancient Chinese culture, the spinning top symbolizes continuity and the cyclical nature of life. Its cross-sectional form, mirroring that of a full moon, bridges the symbolic and the literal—opening space for meaningful design interpretation. Drawing from this cultural symbol and LOEWE’s commitment to craftsmanship, we developed the design for the entire gift set.
The spinning top preserves its most traditional form, crafted from beechwood with a soft, natural finish. The outer packaging is handwoven by artisans using time-honored bamboo weaving techniques. Inside, the mooncakes are embossed with LOEWE’s signature Anagram using handcrafted molds, and detailed with hand-painted finishes.
This gift design moves beyond literal representations of the full moon, opting instead to convey festive wishes through an interactive yet symbolic object that resonates with cultural memory. It is an exploration of how heritage, ritual, and contemporary design converge in a modern gifting experience.
