For GUYU’s premium anti-aging line, “无垠电霜,” UDL developed a packaging design centered on the idea of Eastern philosophies of objects and vessels, translating notions of boundless time and space into a contemporary physical expression.
The form draws inspiration from traditional Chinese vessels, particularly the Tianqiu vase and gallbladder-shaped vase. Its proportions are grounded and substantial, while the softly tensioned contours give the object a restrained sense of strength and presence. A square foot supports the rounded body, bringing square and circle into balance and echoing an Eastern philosophical view of heaven and earth, unity, and the interrelation of all things.
The natural wood cap was deliberately enlarged in proportion and constructed through an inset joinery approach, giving the package greater visual weight and a more grounded material presence. Its warm, resilient texture creates a subtle contrast with the glazed surface of the vessel body. This juxtaposition suggests a balance between technology and nature, while extending GUYU’s long-standing emphasis on natural aesthetics and enriching both the tactile and visual experience.
Structurally, the design continues the concealed thread system previously developed by UDL for GUYU. By hiding the screw thread within the closure, the opening and closing action is reduced to a clean, seamless gesture, while the bottle neck remains visually uninterrupted once opened. This preserves the integrity of the vessel-like form and maintains a refined overall appearance. The inner lid features a sealed structure with a Chinese-inspired lifting handle, bringing greater simplicity and elegance to everyday use.
The aim was for the container to function as more than a vessel for a skincare formula. It becomes a contemporary extension of Eastern philosophy—an object through which ideas of natural order, renewal, and boundless time and space can be experienced in material form. Through a distinctive design language, the packaging adds further depth, imagination, and perceived value to the overall product experience.
