In the latest collaboration around Nidea·Nlight’s Sliding Coaster, UDL Partner Xing Chen contributed as one of the participating creatives.
With the addition of wheels, Sliding Coaster disrupts our usual expectations of desktop objects and introduces a small element of unpredictability and play. Rather than treating utility as its only purpose, the object occasionally turns the tabletop into a miniature playground, creating moments of interaction and a sense of everyday adventure.
Xing Chen responds to our instinctive impulse to move, slide, and interact with objects through a humorous lens. As he puts it: “We can’t help sliding things with wheels around—and I absolutely love doing it. But if you place cups or other fragile items on it, please watch your step. If you’re the adventurous type who tries to step on it, you’ll end up like me—crashing into the pattern on this Sliding Coaster.”
Within the routines of everyday life, an object like this introduces a sense of discovery and, in its own way, reminds us that even something as simple as a coaster does not always have to follow the rules. Let it slide wherever it may.
