Burnout seems to have become a symptom of our age. Many creativity-driven industries have burned through their vitality and courage, day after day, before they could build a sustainable ecosystem. And yet, whenever we begin to imagine the year ahead, we still find ourselves longing for a New Game.
We imagine and hope for a group of people who can bear out the possibility of the “New “Game: people willing to move beyond established industry conventions and open up new ways of working through collective practice. In UDL, we see one such example — a design company built around multiple partner teams and disciplines, working together within a shared structure.
By looking more closely at UDL as a distinct and clearly defined model, perhaps we can begin to expand our imagination of what work might mean, how it might be organized, and what other forms it could take.
